Learning Disability Day Services
Supporting people to find their true potential through horticulture and outdoor activities.

Participants are engaged in an extensive range of horticultural activities:
-
Transforming the plants, flowers and naturally occurring materials of our gardens into works of art.
-
Growing fruit and vegetables
-
Propagating a wide range of plants
-
Maintaining the wildlife gardens
As a participant’s confidence increases they:
-
Develop transferable vocational skills.
-
Progress to independent but supervised activity, from close support.
-
Are supported to consider their future, and make plans in line with their aspirations and EHCP’s
The Growing Space works in partnership with lots of organisations, including The Balsam Centre. This supports our services through access to the wide range of professionals based at the centre, and an extensive programme of other activities that promote good physical and mental health.
Participating in communal activities as a team in a public space, and meeting a diverse range of people round the centre ensures:
-
Participants feel valued for the contribution they make, rather than being soley defined by their learning disability.
-
They gain a sense of pride through achievement because they know they’re benefitting other people and wildlife.
-
Everyone has fun, builds confidence, meets others and builds social skills.
-
Increased feelings of contentment, self-worth and motivation.
We can support participants using our wide range of adaptable communication resources.
There is a charge for accessing this service. There should be a PIP, Direct Payment or other funding mechanism in place. For more information please go to our webpage here or contact us on the below button for details.
