How the charity is funded

The Growing Space is supported by several sources:

• Small grants and charitable trusts 35%
  
• Direct payments 15%
  
• Donations 4%
  
• Local Authorities 2%
• This year we are using our reserves to keep running and are seeking more funding.
  

Funding is usually set for 2 to 3 years, and provides staffing and resources for a particular project. This allows us to develop new activities but it also means we have to keep alert to new funding opportunities and find ways to sustain our core activities.

When clients are referred to us from some practitioners, we are often able to charge for our services which contributes to the support they receive.

What is Funded?

• → New Beginnings

For people experiencing severe and enduring mental health problems.

• → Supported Gardening Tuesdays

For people attending with their own support including an afternoon supported gardening inter-generational group.

• → Supported Gardening Wednesdays

For people experiencing: Depression, Learning Disability, Memory Problems, Social Isolation, Low Self-esteem, any disability or disadvantage

• → Primary Schools

Encouraging children to learn about food growing and provide emotional support to some of those experiencing difficulties.


• → Commercial Horticulture

A pilot project to help unemployed people learn transferable work skills through horticulture.


• → Touch Wood - Men's Shed

Woodworking sessions enabling people to work on community projects

• → Thursday Workshops & Garden Maintenance

Supporting volunteers to plant and maintain the centre's ornamental and productive  gardens.


• → Hard Landscaping & Construction

Developing and maintaining fences, structures and seating areas.
